Ira Hamilton

Ira Hamilton, age 89, of Jefferson, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Sheridan Healthcare and Rehab.  He was born April 30, 1930 in Illmo, Missouri to the late Walter and Gertrude DuVall Hamilton. Ira spent many years crossing the country while working as a furniture mover for the Mayflower Trucking Company.  When he wasn’t on the road, he was busy farming, gardening and spending time with his loving family.  Ira spent many Sunday’s attending Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Aileen Hamilton, granddaughter Kathy Jo Johnson, brothers, James Hamilton, Leonard Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, and Walter Hamilton, sisters Patsy Grimes, Janette Thrower, and Jean Ryan.

Ira is survived by his brother Arvin Hamilton,  sons, John Hamilton (Rhonda) of Jefferson, AR., and Ira Hamilton, Jr. (Christine) of Hayward, CA., daughters, Mary Elizabeth Brown (Lester) of Pine Bluff, AR., and Martha Sue Sweet (Steven) of Eagle Point, OR., 11 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.

A graveside service will be  2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Union Cemetery in Rye, AR.
