Ellen Burnett

Mary Ellen Pumphrey Burnett was born May 1, 1921 in Prattsville, Arkansas, the daughter of the late James Nathan and Cora Paxon Pumphrey. Mary worked for many years as a long-distance telephone operator for the General Telephone Company (now Verizon).  She enjoyed working around her house and traveling all over the country.

Ms. Burnett died Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Hot Springs at the age of 102.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. R. ‘Bill” Burnett, and her siblings, James P. Pumphrey, Walter Pumphrey, Ruth Keedy, Virgie Hamilton, Bernice Mullins, Rita Hulse, and Roy Lee Pumphrey.

Mary is survived by several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023, at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville, AR, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
